Jameson Bow Street 18 Year Old Cask Strength is the rarest whiskey Jameson produces, bottled only once each year, and Batch 1/2019 is the second annual release of this celebrated series. It is a blend of rare pot still and grain Irish whiskeys distilled at the Midleton Distillery in County Cork and matured there for a minimum of 18 years in a combination of American bourbon barrels and Spanish sherry butts. Once married together, the blend traveled to Jameson's original home on Bow Street in Dublin, where it was recasked into first fill bourbon barrels for a final finishing period of six to twelve months in the site's small Maturation House, which holds just 84 casks. Released in August 2019 across 20 markets worldwide, it is triple distilled, non chill filtered and bottled at cask strength of 55.1% ABV (110.2 proof). Critics noted this batch showed even greater intensity than the inaugural 2018 release, while keeping the rich toffee core that defines Bow Street. The nose opens with baked lemon, vanilla toffee and ground ginger over polished oak and a hint of snuff. The palate is warm and fruity, with sweet toffee, dark nutty caramel and vanilla, before a bold wave of ginger root and spice builds, always balanced by that indulgent toffee richness. The finish is long, with dried banana, herbal notes and a touch of lemongrass. A few drops of water will soften the strength and reveal more fruit. Presented in an engraved wooden box featuring a historic map of the Bow Street area, the bottle is accompanied by a copper coin that links to the story of the site and this whiskey. For collectors building a Bow Street vertical, Batch 1/2019 is an essential bottle.
