Jack Daniel's 12 Year Old is part of the Lynchburg distillery's acclaimed annual Aged Series, and this is Batch 4, the 2026 release. For a brand that built its global fame on whiskey without an age statement, this extended aged expression is a meaningful step, sitting between the 10 year and the flagship 14 year in the lineup and offering serious maturity while staying balanced and approachable. It begins with the classic Jack Daniel's mash bill of 80 percent corn, 12 percent malted barley and 8 percent rye, and it is mellowed drop by drop through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal, the Lincoln County Process that defines Tennessee whiskey, before aging 12 years in new charred American white oak barrels. To achieve depth without becoming over oaked, the barrels are rotated from the hot upper floors of the warehouse down to cooler lower floors for the final stage of maturation, a careful approach that keeps the whiskey structured rather than woody. Bottled at 107 proof, or 53.5 percent alcohol by volume, from batch number 04 as marked on the label, it pours a deep burnt orange to amber. The nose leads with maple, brown sugar, graham cracker, banana bread, cinnamon and seasoned oak. The palate is fuller and richer than the standard range, layering warm vanilla, black cherry, maple candy, caramel and baking spice over polished oak, and the finish is long and warming with dry oak, nutmeg and lingering maple sweetness. A limited annual release with strong collector appeal, it makes an excellent side by side with the 10 year and 14 year expressions. Enjoy it neat first, giving it a few minutes to open, with an optional drop of water to soften the oak and widen its layered sweetness.
