The decanter is a glossy pale ceramic ghost with hollow black eyes and a wide open mouth, the expression somewhere between startled and appalled, and it has become a genuine seasonal fixture on bar tops and party tables. Like all good novelty packaging, it earns its keep after the bottle is empty. Inside is Gran Agave Reposado, made from 100 percent Blue Weber agave grown in Jalisco and distilled slowly so the cooked agave character comes through intact rather than being stripped out for smoothness. It then rests six months in American oak. The reposado category allows anything from two months to a year, and six months is a considered middle ground: enough time for the barrel to lay down vanilla, cinnamon and sweet honey with a gentle spice through the middle, not so long that the wood takes over and buries the agave underneath it. What comes out has real body and grip, with intense agave lingering on the palate and a clean, mellow finish. Bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume. These are produced in limited quantities for the Halloween season and do not come back once the year's run has cleared, which is why they tend to move through September and October rather than sitting.
