Blanton's The Original Single Barrel is the bourbon that started the modern single barrel category. Introduced in 1984 by Buffalo Trace master distiller Elmer T. Lee, it was named in honour of Colonel Albert B. Blanton, the distillery's longtime leader, who once set aside whiskey from select barrels for ambassadors, dignitaries, family and friends. Every bottle is drawn from one individual barrel, never blended with any other, and the barrels are hand selected from the centre cut sections of Warehouse H, the only metal clad warehouse at Buffalo Trace, where Colonel Blanton believed the conditions for aging bourbon were ideal. The bourbon is distilled from Buffalo Trace's high rye mash bill and bottled at 93 proof. This 700ml bottle is the international export format of the same Original Single Barrel sold in 750ml in the United States. Each label is filled in by hand with the dump date, barrel number, warehouse and rick, and every bottle is topped with one of eight collectible horse and jockey stoppers, each showing a different stage of a race and a letter that spells out the Blanton's name.
