Barrell Bourbon Batch 036 is a cask strength blend of straight bourbon whiskeys from Barrell Craft Spirits, the Louisville based company widely regarded as the original independent blender of unique, aged, cask strength American whiskey. Founded in 2013 by Joe Beatrice, Barrell does not distill its own whiskey; instead, founder and master blender Tripp Stimson source exceptional barrels from across the country, then age, blend, and bottle them at full barrel proof to create distinctive, never repeated batches. Batch 036 is a multi state, multi age blend, drawing on straight bourbons from Indiana, aged 7.5, 8, and 10 years, Kentucky, aged 9 years, and Tennessee, aged 8 and 15 years, married into a single cohesive whole with a derived mash bill of 79 percent corn, 16 percent rye, and 5 percent malted barley. Released in 2024, it also marked the debut of Barrell's redesigned label, which now prominently displays the batch number along with the full state origins and ages of every component, reflecting the company's signature commitment to transparency. Bottled uncut at a robust 114.44 proof, it is a bold, complex, barrel proof pour. Expect a rich nose of honey, fresh citrus, cherry jam, vanilla, and snickerdoodle, a layered palate of caramel, chocolate, pecan pie, orange zest, cherry cordial, and a wave of pepper, cardamom, and cinnamon, and a long, warming, opulent finish. A multiple award winner, including a 92 rating from Whisky Advocate and Gold at the 2024 New York World Spirits Competition, it is an outstanding example of the blender's art. Enjoy it neat, or open it up with a few drops of water.
