Dolce is the Ardbeg Day release for 2026, launched on the thirtieth of May at the close of Fèis Ìle, and the theme is 1960s Italian cinema. The carton is a collage of film reels, cameras and Mediterranean citrus, and the whisky inside follows the same idea: la dolce vita, Islay style. The cask choice is what makes it interesting. Ardbeg matured this in sweet Marsala dolce casks from Sicily alongside its classic bourbon barrel aged single malt. Marsala is a fortified wine made around Trapani on Sicily's western coast, and it runs from bone dry secco through to the rich dolce style used here, which carries dried fruit, caramel, fig and chocolate. Marsala casks are genuinely uncommon in Scotch, far rarer than sherry, port or Madeira wood, and setting that Mediterranean sweetness against Ardbeg's medicinal coastal peat produces a real contrast rather than a gentle rounding off. The colour is a deep sunset orange. The nose leads with apricot, plump raisins, dates, stewed apple and orange marmalade, turning earthier and more saline with water, toward toasted mushroom, pine needle, capers and olives. The palate opens on cinnamon, star anise and spiced liquorice before moving into smoked wood, maple syrup, baked dates with walnuts, honeycomb and dark chocolate, then dried fruit and lemon rind against salted nuts and dried herbs. Non chill filtered at 47.8 percent, natural colour. This is a one time annual release and will not be repeated. Drink it neat, then add water, which changes it considerably.

Is this a Committee exclusive? No. Dolce is a general release sold at Ardbeg Embassies, whisky specialists, online retailers and the distillery. Committee members had four days of early access before the wider launch.
Is it flavoured? No. The sweetness comes from the Marsala casks the whisky matured in, not from anything added.
What was Ardbeg Day 2026? The distillery's annual celebration on the final Saturday of Fèis Ìle, held on 30 May 2026 with a 1960s Italian cinema theme. Dolce was that year's limited edition.
