Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond 11 Year Old, Fall 2021 edition, is the eighth national release in Heaven Hill's celebrated decanter series and one of the most collectible bottled in bond bourbons produced today. The line honors both the history of the Old Fitzgerald brand, first registered in 1884 and later owned by Julian "Pappy" Van Winkle before Heaven Hill acquired it in 1999, and the historic Bottled in Bond designation itself. Every release meets that strict federal standard: the product of a single distillery from a single distilling season, aged a minimum of four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof. This edition goes far beyond the minimum with a full 11 year age statement, drawn from barrels distilled in spring 2010 and pulled from rickhouse EE at the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. It is the second 11 year old in the national series, following the spring 2018 release. Old Fitzgerald is made with Heaven Hill's wheated mashbill, using wheat in place of rye as the secondary grain, which gives it a softer, rounder character that a decade in oak deepens beautifully. The nose is bright and layered, with cinnamon, vanilla, caramel and oak spice alongside subtle fruit sweetness. The palate is rich and velvety, coating the mouth with honey, butterscotch, brown sugar and toasted oak, joined by plums, peaches, figs and creamy tree nuts. The finish is warm and sweet, closing with dark fruit and milk chocolate. The bottle itself is an ornate diamond decanter inspired by an original 1950s Old Fitzgerald design, with the black label that marks every fall release, and its tax strip discloses when the whiskey was produced and bottled. Released on a strictly allocated basis, this is a display piece as much as a pour.
