WhistlePig Snout to Tail is the brand's first deep dive into super premium bourbon and the world's first whiskey finished with two distinctly toasted barrel heads. After 10 years of maturation, this Kentucky distilled straight bourbon is transferred to custom finishing barrels fitted with two different toasted heads, a medium toast Vermont oak at the snout end and a Vermont oak smoked maple wood toast at the tail end. During finishing, the barrels are stood upright and flipped 180 degrees from snout to tail, exposing the bourbon to each toasted head in turn for layered influence no traditional single finish can replicate. Bottled at 88 proof, a wink to the 880 miles between WhistlePig's Vermont farm and its new Louisville Kentucky outpost (The WhistlePig PiggyBank, opened spring 2025). Released January 29, 2025 as the equal and opposite of the flagship 10 Year Rye, this is WhistlePig's permanent bourbon flagship and a benchmark for toasted barrel finishing in American whiskey.

FAQ
What makes Snout to Tail unique? It is the first bourbon in the world finished using two distinctly toasted barrel heads. The snout end of each finishing barrel is medium toast Vermont oak, the tail end is Vermont oak with smoked maple wood toast. WhistlePig flips the barrels 180 degrees during finishing so the bourbon contacts both ends, producing a dual influence no traditional single finish can match.
Where is Snout to Tail distilled? The straight bourbon is distilled in Kentucky and shipped to WhistlePig's farm in Shoreham, Vermont where it undergoes the proprietary snout to tail finishing and is hand bottled. The 88 proof is itself a wink to the 880 miles between the two locations.
Is Snout to Tail a limited release? No. Snout to Tail is a permanent extension of the core WhistlePig lineup, positioned as the bourbon counterpart to the flagship 10 Year Rye. It launched January 29, 2025 alongside the announcement of the brand's Louisville PiggyBank outpost.
How does this compare to other WhistlePig releases? Snout to Tail is the bourbon flagship while the rye lineup includes the cocktail focused PiggyBack 6 Year, the flagship 10 Year Rye, and age stated expressions like the 18 Year Double Malt. Snout to Tail introduces the WhistlePig house style of experimental finishing to the bourbon category.
