The Blanco is the brightest bottle in the KAH range and the one where the brand's design premise reads most clearly. It comes as a sculpted ceramic skull finished in white, hand painted with black line work across the crown, cheeks and jaw, with spiderweb detailing worked into the eye sockets and a rose along one side. Every skull is painted individually, so no two come out quite the same. The design draws on a Bolivian Day of the Dead practice that is distinct from the Mexican observance most people know: families keep the actual skulls of loved ones and bring them out each November, carrying them to the cemetery where they are symbolically fed and offered tequila, sometimes cigarettes. It is a more literal relationship with the dead than the Mexican tradition, and KAH assigns a different regional practice to each expression in its range. Inside is unaged tequila made from 100 percent Blue Weber agave sourced from both the highlands and lowlands of Jalisco, from plants left to mature six to seven years in the field. The agave is cooked for around nine and a half hours, milled and filtered, fermented for roughly forty two hours, then double distilled and brought to strength using reverse osmosis and charcoal filtered water drawn from a nearby volcanic spring. With no barrel time at all, what reaches the glass is agave with nothing over the top of it: silky and delicate in texture, with a clear peppery bite and a clean herbal finish. Produced at Fábrica de Tequilas Finos in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, under NOM 1472. Bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume.

FAQ

Q: Is it aged?
A: No. Blanco is unaged and goes into the bottle without barrel time, so the flavour is pure agave.

Q: What does the white skull design represent?
A: It draws on a Bolivian Day of the Dead tradition in which families keep the skulls of loved ones and bring them out each November, taking them to the cemetery where they are symbolically fed and offered tequila.

Q: Is each bottle hand painted?
A: Yes. Every ceramic skull is individually painted, so small variations between bottles are expected.

Q: How does it compare to the KAH Reposado and Añejo?
A: The Reposado rests months in American oak and the Añejo over a year. The Blanco has no oak at all and is the brightest and most agave forward of the three.

Q: Who produces it?
A: Fábrica de Tequilas Finos in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, under NOM 1472.

Q: Where can I buy KAH Day of the Dead Blanco online?
A: Available here at Liquor On Broadway while stock lasts, with fast insured shipping nationwide.
