KAH built its whole identity around a single idea: that the bottle should honour Día de Muertos as seriously as the tequila inside honours Jalisco. The Añejo comes in a hand painted ceramic skull finished in deep black with fine white line work running across the crown and jaw, and the design draws specifically on Nicaraguan Day of the Dead practice, in which families do not simply decorate graves and lay out food but often sleep at the gravesides of their loved ones, reinforcing a bond with the dead rather than merely commemorating it. Each skull is painted individually, so no two are quite the same. The brand states that KAH means life in the ancient Mayan language, and that a full bottle is understood to be alive, waiting to be shared. Inside is a tequila made from 100 percent Blue Weber agave sourced from both the highlands and lowlands of Jalisco, from plants matured six to seven years, and produced at Fábrica de Tequilas Finos in the town of Tequila under NOM 1472. The agave is cooked for around nine and a half hours, milled and filtered, fermented for roughly forty two hours, then double distilled and brought to strength with reverse osmosis and charcoal filtered water. It rests in American oak long enough to carry the añejo designation and shows it clearly: toasted oak, caramel and vanilla on the nose with roasted coffee, tobacco and gentle spice behind, then a full bodied palate of cooked agave, dark chocolate and aged oak with baking spice and a light pepper edge. Bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume. Good neat after dinner, and it holds its own in a margarita if you want one with real weight.

Q: What does the black skull design represent?
A: It draws on Nicaraguan Day of the Dead traditions, in which families often sleep at the gravesides of loved ones to reinforce their connection with those who have passed.

Q: Is each bottle hand painted?
A: Yes. Every ceramic skull is individually painted, so small variations between bottles are expected.

Q: Who produces the tequila?
A: Fábrica de Tequilas Finos in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, under NOM 1472, using Blue Weber agave from both the highland and lowland growing regions.

Q: What does KAH mean?
A: The brand states it means life in the ancient Mayan language, and that a full bottle is considered alive until shared.
