Doble Barrica 28 is the most technically interesting bottle Dos Artes has put out, and the number in the name is the whole story: twenty eight months in wood, across two different barrel types. The tequila is made from 100 percent Blue Weber agave and matured first in American oak, which lays down the vanilla, caramel and sweet toasted character that most drinkers associate with aged tequila, then moved into French oak, which is tighter grained and more tannic and brings dried fruit, baking spice and a drier structural backbone. Twenty eight months puts it deep into añejo territory without crossing into extra añejo, which begins at thirty six, and that turns out to be a useful place to sit: long enough for real barrel depth, short enough that the roasted agave still leads rather than getting buried under oak. The 2025 edition is presented in the house ceramic decanter, worked here in charcoal grey with deep teal and white, the Calavera face carved in relief across the front panel and Talavera style floral work covering the shoulders, sides and neck. As with every Dos Artes bottle it is shaped, fired and painted by hand by Mexican artisans, which means no two are the same and yours will differ in small ways from any photograph. The brand name means two arts, a reference to the tequila and the ceramic being treated as equal crafts, and the annual Calavera editions are where that idea gets pushed hardest. Bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume in a full litre rather than the standard 750ml. Sip it neat and keep the decanter.

Q: What does the 28 refer to?
A: Twenty eight months of maturation. It is not a year or an edition number.
Q: What is doble barrica?
A: Double barrel. The tequila matures in two different cask types, American oak for vanilla and caramel sweetness, French oak for dried fruit, spice and tannic structure.
Q: Is this an extra añejo?
A: No. Extra añejo requires a minimum of thirty six months. At twenty eight months this is an añejo, though a long aged one.
Q: Why is it a full litre?
A: Dos Artes bottles its entire range in one litre ceramic decanters rather than the standard 750ml, so there is noticeably more tequila in the bottle.
Q: Will my bottle look exactly like the photo?
A: No two are identical. Each decanter is carved, fired and hand painted individually, so small variations are expected and are part of the appeal.
Q: Where can I buy Dos Artes Doble Barrica 28 Añejo online?
A: Available here at Liquor On Broadway while stock lasts, with fast insured shipping nationwide.
