House Tully was paired with The Singleton of Glendullan Select for the Game of Thrones single malt collection, and the match works better than most in the set. The Tullys hold Riverrun, a castle built at the meeting of two rivers, and their sigil is a leaping trout; Glendullan sits in Speyside on the banks of the River Fiddich, which has supplied the distillery with water since it was founded in 1897. Water is the connection, and for once the pairing is drawn from something real about the distillery rather than assigned at random. Worth knowing about the name: The Singleton is a brand covering three separate distilleries, with Glendullan bottled for the United States, Dufftown for Europe and Glen Ord for Asia. This is the Glendullan, and it is a different whisky from the other two despite the shared branding. Select is the no age statement expression in the range, built from a combination of American and European oak casks, and it is deliberately approachable: bright and rounded rather than heavy, with orchard fruit and vanilla leading, a soft nuttiness underneath and gentle spice through the finish. It is the sort of Speyside malt that works equally well for someone new to single malt and for someone who wants an easy pour without much thought. Bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume and presented in an illustrated collector tube carrying the Tully trout and the house words. One of eight bottlings released in 2019 alongside the show's final season, and long discontinued.
