Don Julio González started distilling tequila in 1942 at the age of 17 with a single purpose: to make the finest tequila Mexico had ever produced, for himself and the people he cared about. He planted his agave in the rich red clay soil of the Jalisco Highlands, waited the full seven to ten years for the Blue Weber plants to reach peak maturity, and built his distillery — La Primavera — in the town of Atotonilco el Alto. He wasn't making tequila for export. He was making tequila for his friends. The short, squat bottle Don Julio is famous for was designed to fit under the table at his own parties so guests wouldn't have to strain to see each other across it.
Don Julio Blanco is the foundation of the entire range — the purest expression of what Jalisco Highlands agave tastes like when distilled with care and bottled immediately without any oak aging. Crystal clear and vibrant, it delivers fresh citrus, white pepper, and the distinctively sweet, vegetal agave character that Highlands tequilas are celebrated for. Presented here in Don Julio's signature blue gift box — the definitive premium blanco for margaritas, palomas, and confident sipping neat.

What makes Jalisco Highlands agave different?
Agave grown in the Jalisco Highlands — at higher elevations in red clay soil — tends to produce a sweeter, fruitier, and more floral flavor profile than Lowlands agave. The plants also grow larger and take longer to mature, concentrating their sugars. Don Julio sources exclusively from the Highlands, which is the primary reason its blancos have a distinctly sweeter, more refined character than many other premium tequilas.
What is the difference between Don Julio Blanco and Reposado?
Don Julio Blanco is unaged — bottled immediately after distillation, it delivers the purest expression of agave flavor with bright citrus and pepper notes. Don Julio Reposado is rested for eight months in American white oak barrels, which adds vanilla, caramel, and light wood character while softening the agave's natural sharpness. The Blanco is the more vibrant cocktail tequila; the Reposado is for sipping.
