Ardbeg Ten Cask Strength is a historic limited edition release from the legendary Islay distillery, the long awaited cask strength version of the iconic Ardbeg Ten Years Old that the Ardbeg Committee has been demanding for over two decades. Launched on February 24, 2026, this is the first widely available cask strength 10 Year from Ardbeg since a tiny, almost mythical Japan only release in 2003, and it stands as the highest strength Ardbeg Committee Release ever bottled at a robust 61.7% ABV. Created by Master Blender Gillian MacDonald alongside Ardbeg's Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill Lumsden MBE, the whisky was drawn from a hand selected set of American oak ex bourbon casks, including experimental barrels filled with undiluted new make spirit at a higher than usual 71% ABV strength a decade ago. The result is an Ardbeg of incredible intensity, the signature peaty paradox of the Ten amplified, with dense smoke, brine, sea spray, tar, and creosote up front balanced by smooth natural sweetness, vanilla, toffee, and a long warming finish. Bottled at 61.7% ABV, non chill filtered, and drawn from the heart of the distillery's character. Established 1815, Ardbeg is widely revered as one of the smokiest, peatiest, and most complex of all Islay malts. As a limited Committee release, once it is gone, it is gone, and this is destined to be one of the most sought after Ardbegs of the modern era.

FAQ
What is the Ardbeg Committee? The Ardbeg Committee is the distillery's free global membership group of over 180,000 superfans, founded to preserve and celebrate Ardbeg's heavily peated Islay malt tradition. Committee Releases are special limited bottlings created in response to member demand. The Ten Cask Strength has topped the Committee's most wanted list for over 20 years.
Why is this release so special? Apart from a tiny Japan only release in 2003, a cask strength version of Ardbeg's flagship Ten has never been widely available. After more than two decades of Committee demand, the distillery hand selected a set of American oak bourbon casks, some experimentally filled with new make spirit at the unusually high strength of 71% ABV a decade ago, to create this 61.7% bottling, the highest strength Ardbeg Committee Release ever made.
How is this different from the standard Ardbeg 10? Same distillery, same ex bourbon American oak maturation, same 10 year age, but the standard Ardbeg 10 is bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof) and the Cask Strength is bottled at 61.7% (123.4 proof). The result is significantly more intense peat smoke, deeper concentration of every flavor, and a longer warming finish, all amplified by the higher proof. Many enthusiasts consider the cask strength the definitive expression of Ardbeg's smoky style.
How should I drink it? At 61.7% ABV, sip neat first to experience the full intensity, then add a few drops of water to open the aromatics and tame the heat. The high strength takes water exceptionally well and reveals additional layers as it opens. A contemplative dram for serious peat enthusiasts, not a mixing whisky.
Why is Ardbeg so peaty? Ardbeg uses heavily peated malt with phenol levels around 55 ppm, among the highest in Scotland. The distillery has been making this distinctive style on the south coast of Islay since 1815, drawing on local peat, the maritime environment, and unusually long fermentation and slow distillation in compact stills. Ardbeg is consistently rated among the smokiest and most complex of all Islay single malts.
