Most premium vodka brands were invented by marketing departments in the 1990s. Ketel One was built by the Nolet family in 1691. For ten generations, in the town of Schiedam in Holland, the Nolet family has been distilling spirits using the same copper pot still — Distilleerketel #1, the original coal-fired kettle from which the brand takes its name — that their ancestor Joannes Nolet first fired more than three centuries ago. That still is still in use today. When you open a bottle of Ketel One, you're drinking something made by people who have been doing this longer than the United States has existed.
The production process is genuinely distinctive: wheat grain is column distilled to achieve purity, then a portion is redistilled in the original copper pot stills to add character and texture, and the two are blended together. The result is filtered through charcoal and rested until the Nolet family decides it's ready. The outcome is a vodka with remarkable clarity and a subtle personality — crisp mineral notes, a gentle white pepper tingle, light citrus, and a silky soft mouthfeel that makes it as exceptional sipped neat as it is in a classic Martini or vodka soda. This is the 750ml bottle — the best format for home bars and regular drinkers.

What makes Ketel One different from other premium vodkas?
Most vodkas are purely column distilled for maximum neutrality. Ketel One takes a portion of the distillate and redistills it in the original copper pot still from 1864, then blends that back into the column-distilled base. The pot still addition introduces subtle character and texture — a silky mouthfeel and faint mineral, citrus, and pepper notes — while maintaining the clean purity that defines great vodka. It's one of the few vodkas where you can genuinely taste the production method.
Is Ketel One good for a Martini?
It's the classic Martini vodka — the silky texture, gentle pepper, and clean finish are exactly what a well-made Martini needs. Ketel One is also exceptional in a Vodka Soda, Vodka Tonic, Moscow Mule, or any serve where the vodka's own character has space to come through rather than hiding behind strong mixers.
