WhistlePig The Boss Hog IX Siren's Song is the ninth chapter in the most coveted limited release series in American rye whiskey, hand bottled on the WhistlePig farm in Vermont in October 2022. Single barrel and bottled at barrel strength, Siren's Song marks several firsts for the brand: the first Boss Hog crafted by Head Blender Meghan Ireland and Head of Whiskey Development Liz Rhoades, the first whiskey ever finished in fig nectar and tentura barrels, the first Boss Hog with no age statement, and the first where all finishing liquids were developed and seasoned in house. WhistlePig traveled to Patras, Greece, the only place in the world where tentura is produced, to learn the craft from original distillers before returning to Vermont to make their own farm scratch tentura (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, orange peel, honey) and Greek fig nectar. The mature rye was double finished, a week in fig nectar barrels followed by tentura cask finishing, producing a Christmas cake worthy rye unlike anything else in the WhistlePig catalog. Each bottle features NFC authentication on the back label and is crowned with one of nine bespoke Danforth Pewter toppers representing the nine Greek Muses, with Melpomene (the Muse of Tragedy) being the rarest and most collectible.

Nose: Cinnamon and citrus zest lead, layered with sweet fig, baked ginger, nutmeg, and a Christmas spice cabinet aromatic profile.

Finish: Long, jammy fig nectar with rippled waves of raisin and prune, classic WhistlePig rye spice rounding out a labyrinth of flavor.
FAQ
What makes Boss Hog IX Siren's Song unique? It is the first whiskey ever finished in fig nectar and tentura barrels. Tentura is a spiced liqueur from Patras, Greece that WhistlePig studied at an original tentura distillery before returning to Vermont to make their own farm scratch version. The fig nectar was also developed in house. This is the first Boss Hog where all finishing liquids were created on the WhistlePig farm.
What are the nine pewter toppers? Each bottle is topped with one of nine bespoke Danforth Pewter sculptures representing a Greek Muse: Calliope (epic poetry), Clio (history), Erato (erotic poetry), Euterpe (music), Melpomene (tragedy), Polyhymnia (sacred poetry), Terpsichore (dance), Thalia (comedy), and Urania (astronomy). Melpomene is the rarest topper and the most sought after by collectors.
Does each bottle taste the same? No. Siren's Song is single barrel and bottled at barrel strength, with proof ranging from 102.3 to 106.2 across the run. Each bottle carries its individual barrel number printed on the front label and NFC authentication on the back.
Is Boss Hog IX still in production? No. Siren's Song was the 2022 annual Boss Hog release and has long been succeeded by Boss Hog X, XI, and XII. Remaining bottles are increasingly scarce, trade well above original retail on the secondary market, and command premiums for the rarer Muse toppers.
How does this compare to other WhistlePig releases? Boss Hog sits at the apex of the WhistlePig hierarchy. Compare with the core WhistlePig 10 Year Rye, the wine cask finished Old World 12 Year, or the age stated WhistlePig 18 Year Double Malt.
