Longrow Red 15 Year Pinot Noir Cask Matured is the 2022 release in the celebrated annual Longrow Red series, produced at the legendary Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown by J. and A. Mitchell and Co., the same family owned operation that has been making whisky on site since 1828. Longrow is Springbank's heavily peated double distilled expression, hitting phenol levels of 50 to 55 ppm and named for the former neighboring distillery whose old warehouse now serves as Springbank's bottling hall. The annual Longrow Red series rotates through a different red wine cask each year, and this 2022 release is the oldest Longrow Red ever bottled, drawn from spirit matured for 11 years in ex bourbon barrels before transfer to fresh Pinot Noir barriques from the acclaimed Grant Taylor's Valli Vineyards in Central Otago, New Zealand, where it rested for an additional 4 years before being bottled at cask strength 51.4% ABV. Non chill filtered, natural color, and with a global outturn of just 9,400 bottles, this is a true Springbank collector's piece pairing heavy peat smoke with vibrant New World Pinot Noir red fruit and structured tannin.

Tasting Notes
Color: Deep ruby amber with rich rose copper highlights from the Pinot Noir cask influence.
Nose: Creamy and fruity with custard, bramble jelly, red apples, cherries, strawberry jam, redcurrants, and smoky embers from the Longrow peat. Toffee, butterscotch, breakfast tea, smoked paprika, tobacco, damp leaves, and bung cloth round out a layered profile.
Palate: Oily and almost sticky mouthfeel, with earthy peat, jammy red fruits (strawberry, raspberry), pumpernickel, oysters, anise, cashew, struck matches, ashy smoke, faint salinity, and gentle spice. Distinctly winey, more than the nose suggests.
Finish: Long, sticky, winey, and sweet smoke, with developing tannin, cranberry, and gentle salinity ebbing into a final maritime peat close.
FAQ
What is Longrow versus Springbank? Both are made at the same Campbeltown distillery, but they are distinct single malts with different production methods. Springbank is 2.5 times distilled and lightly peated (12 to 15 ppm). Longrow is double distilled and heavily peated (50 to 55 ppm). Hazelburn, the third sister brand, is triple distilled and unpeated. The name Longrow honors a former neighboring distillery whose old warehouse is still used by Springbank as its bottling hall today.
What is the Longrow Red series? An annual limited release that explores how different red wine cask finishes interact with Longrow's heavy peat character. Each year features a different cask type: past releases have included Pinot Noir (2019, 11 year), Cabernet Sauvignon (2020, 13 year), Malbec (2021, 10 year), this Pinot Noir (2022, 15 year), and Port. The 2022 15 Year Pinot Noir is the oldest age stated release in the Red series to date.
How rare is this bottle? Released with a global outturn of just 9,400 bottles, the 2022 Longrow Red Pinot Noir 15 sold out from the distillery quickly. Springbank's overall production is severely limited by the distillery's refusal to expand or modernize, and annual Red series releases are among the most allocated bottles in the Campbeltown category. Original UK retail was around £65 / $80 USD; secondary pricing now regularly exceeds €290 / $300+.
Where can I buy Longrow Red 15 Year Pinot Noir online? Available here at Liquor On Broadway while stock lasts, with fast insured shipping nationwide. Once this 9,400 bottle outturn is exhausted globally, this release cannot be replenished from the distillery.
