Gran Patrón Piedra takes its name from the Spanish word for "stone" — a tribute to the ancient tahona process that defines every drop. At Hacienda Patrón in the Highlands of Jalisco, only the finest Blue Weber agave is selected, slow-steam-cooked, and then crushed using a two-ton volcanic stone wheel. The tahona extracts the sugary juice alongside the agave fibers, a process so labor-intensive that very few tequila producers still use it. That earthy, fibrous character is part of what makes Piedra so distinctive — a subtle earthiness and velvety texture that sets it apart from any roller mill tequila.
After distillation, the tequila is aged for four years in a combination of French Limousin and new American oak barrels — one of the longest aging regimes in the Gran Patrón portfolio. The result is a deep mahogany extra añejo of extraordinary richness and complexity. The distinctive bottle, its silhouette inspired by the tahona stone itself, comes in an elegant box that converts into a display case. Gold medal winner at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and International Wine & Spirit Competition.

What is the tahona process?
The tahona is a massive volcanic stone wheel — in Patrón's case, two tons — that slowly crushes the cooked agave to extract the juice. The juice ferments together with the agave fibers, which adds an earthy, textured character to the final spirit. It is far more labor-intensive than modern roller mills, which is why very few producers still use it. Piedra ("stone") is named in direct homage to this process.
How does Piedra compare to Gran Patrón Burdeos?
Both are Gran Patrón's premium Extra Añejo expressions, but they take different paths. Piedra is all about the tahona process and French/American oak aging for four years, creating an earthy, complex character. Burdeos uses Bordeaux wine barrel finishing for a more fruit-forward, wine-influenced profile. Piedra is the more traditionally minded of the two.
