Paddy's Old Irish Whiskey traces its roots back to 1779 in County Cork, Ireland, but takes its name from Patrick "Paddy" O'Flaherty, the legendary salesman who spent four decades pub crawling across Ireland buying free rounds for customers and selling what was then called Cork Distilleries Company Old Irish Whiskey. By 1912 his customers had become so loyal they were ordering by his name alone, and the distillery officially renamed the whiskey in his honor. Today Paddy's is a triple distilled blend of all three classic Irish whiskey styles: single pot still, single malt, and single grain, aged in oak casks for 4 to 7 years. Made at Midleton Distillery in County Cork by Irish Distillers, owned by the Sazerac Company since 2016. One of the world's bestselling Irish whiskeys and one of the great everyday value drams in the category.

Who was Paddy O'Flaherty? Patrick "Paddy" O'Flaherty was a charismatic salesman hired by the Cork Distilleries Company in 1882. For 40 years he traveled pub to pub across County Cork promoting the company's Old Irish Whiskey, often by buying free rounds for customers. His sales technique worked so well that publicans began ordering simply "Paddy Flaherty's whiskey." In 1912 the distillery officially renamed the brand in his honor.
What makes Paddy's unique among Irish whiskeys? It's one of the few blended Irish whiskeys that combines all three classic Irish styles: single pot still, single malt, and single grain. The blend leans higher in malt content than other triple style blends, giving it a slightly more nutty, malty character than competitors at the same price point.
How does it compare to Jameson? Both are produced at Midleton Distillery in County Cork, but they're different blends with different recipes. Jameson is the world's bestselling Irish whiskey with a softer, smoother profile. Paddy's leans drier with more malty cereal and honey character, and is typically priced slightly below Jameson at retail.
