The 2025 Día de Muertos edition is the second Don Julio 70 bottle designed by Willy Chavarria, and it is the one where he brought colour into the series. The debut, released the previous year, worked entirely in black and white line illustration. For 2025 Chavarria introduced his signature red roses, threaded through the Día de Muertos iconography that wraps the clear glass: skeleton figures in wide brimmed hats and formal dress, calaveras, and roses in deep red against the monochrome. The rose is deliberate rather than decorative, standing for passion, resilience and undying love, and the release carries the phrase Por Amor, for love, which is the sentiment underneath the whole holiday. Chavarria is a CFDA Men's Designer of the Year known for silhouettes fusing Chicano culture with high fashion tailoring, and the bottle was unveiled alongside his New York Fashion Week showcase during Hispanic Heritage Month. Inside is Don Julio 70 Añejo Cristalino, launched in 2012 to mark seventy years since Don Julio González began distilling at seventeen in Atotonilco El Alto, and recognised as the world's first clear añejo. It is built from 100 percent Blue Weber agave grown in the Highlands of Jalisco, aged eighteen months in American white oak, then charcoal filtered to remove the colour while leaving the maturation intact. The result carries the vanilla, caramel and toasted oak depth of a proper añejo with the brightness of a blanco: bright agave and vanilla on the nose, silky roasted agave, honey and dried fruit on the palate, and a crisp clean finish with citrus zest. Bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume.

FAQ

Q: How do I tell this edition from the others?
A: The 2025 edition features red roses. The 2024 debut is entirely black and white, and the 2026 edition by Patricio Campillo uses orange marigolds.

Q: Who designed it?
A: Willy Chavarria, the CFDA Men's Designer of the Year, in his second Don Julio 70 artist edition. It was unveiled alongside his New York Fashion Week showcase.

Q: Is the tequila different from standard Don Julio 70?
A: No. The liquid is the same Añejo Cristalino. What is exclusive to this release is the bottle design.

Q: What is a cristalino?
A: An aged tequila that has been charcoal filtered to remove colour while retaining the flavour developed in the barrel. Don Julio 70 was the first añejo produced this way.

Q: Is it clear because it is unaged?
A: No. It is fully aged eighteen months as an añejo, and the colour is removed afterward through filtration.

Q: Where can I buy Don Julio 70 Día de Muertos 2025 online?
A: Available here at Liquor On Broadway while stock lasts, with fast insured shipping nationwide.
