Pinhook Collaboration Series Edition No. 2 is the second release in the brand's most experimental and limited line, a series in which Pinhook partners with luminaries from other sensory rich fields to craft singular vintages that embody the curiosity driven spirit on which the brand was founded. For this 2022 edition, Pinhook teamed with Garrett Oliver, the legendary brewmaster of Brooklyn Brewery, author of The Brewmaster's Table, editor in chief of The Oxford Companion to Beer, and a 2014 James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Wine, Spirits, or Beer Professional. Oliver, a longtime friend of Pinhook co founder and Master Blender Sean Josephs from his days at the Brooklyn bourbon bar Char No. 4, brought more than three decades of brewing expertise and a finely tuned palate to the project. Together they produced an artfully structured high proof, high rye bourbon, blended and proofed from 20 hand selected barrels sourced from Still Austin in Texas. Maturing for four years in the intense Texas heat accelerated the aging process, yielding a whiskey with a depth and maturity that far exceeds its years in the barrel. Beyond the liquid, the release carries a meaningful mission: proceeds fund 20 scholarships in brewing and distilling for people of color through the Michael James Jackson Foundation, which Oliver chairs. Bottled at a robust 118.9 proof, Edition No. 2 delivers tropical fruit, spice, and chocolate on the nose, followed by deep gingerbread, caramel, and dark cherry on the palate, with a surprising flourish of licorice. A genuinely limited and purpose driven release, it stands as both a bourbon lover's dream and a collectible chapter in Pinhook's ongoing exploration of American whiskey.
