Stagg Batch 25C is the Winter 2025 release of Buffalo Trace's barrel proof powerhouse, bottled uncut and unfiltered at 125.6 proof. The name honors George T. Stagg, who built the distillery that now bears his name into one of the largest distilling operations in 19th century Kentucky, and this label stands as the younger, more frequently released sibling to the George T. Stagg bottling in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. Formerly sold as Stagg Jr., the line dropped the suffix after Batch 17 and has been known simply as Stagg ever since. Batch 25C is built on Buffalo Trace's low rye Mash Bill #1 and aged roughly eight to nine years in new charred American oak. Nothing is added and nothing is taken away: no water, no chill filtration, just the full and undiminished character of the barrel, including all of its viscosity and depth. Each batch reflects the specific barrel entry proof, warehouse position and aging conditions of its selection, which is why the proof shifts every time. At 125.6 proof, 25C is notable as the gentlest Stagg released to date, and reviewers have singled it out as more approachable and restrained than its hotter siblings without losing the intensity the line is known for. It opens with rich caramel, dark chocolate and molasses, joined by black pepper, allspice and toasted oak. The palate is creamy and full bodied, layering brown sugar, roasted nuts, vanilla and fresh baked bread with deep fruit notes of dark cherry, fig and burnt orange peel. The finish is long and warming, a true Kentucky hug that lingers for minutes after the last sip. Released in strictly limited quantities, each Stagg batch is a distinct piece of an ongoing vertical that collectors work hard to complete.
