Pinhook Bohemian Bourbon High Proof is a landmark release in the brand's history: the 2020 vintage of its annual high proof bourbon and, more importantly, Pinhook's inaugural bourbon crafted entirely from its own custom Kentucky distillate. It holds the distinction of being the first bourbon in half a century to be distilled, aged, and bottled at the legendary Old Taylor Distillery in Frankfort, now beautifully revived as Castle and Key, marking Pinhook's transition from sourcing whiskey to producing its own. Founded around the twin ideas of bringing a vintage philosophy to bourbon and celebrating Kentucky's thoroughbred racing heritage, Pinhook names every release for a promising young horse. This vintage honors Bohemian Bourbon, a bay filly standing 15.3 hands, described by Bourbon Lane Stable owner Jamie Hill as having a light frame but a big heart and a strong will to win. Built on a balanced mashbill of 75 percent corn, 15 percent rye, and 10 percent malted barley, this limited expression of just 100 barrels was aged more than 34 months before being blended and proofed by Pinhook co founder and Master Taster Sean Josephs. Following the brand's vintage approach, the High Proof bourbon is bottled close to cask strength at a proof selected to maximize complexity, here 114.5, and is left unfiltered to preserve its full natural character. Young but expressive, the 2020 Bohemian offers a bright nose of tangerine, preserved lemon, and brioche, opening to a lush palate of dried papaya, toffee, cocoa, and almond, an honest and transparent snapshot of Pinhook's first homegrown Kentucky bourbon.
