The whey is fermented and distilled into a smooth spirit that gives the gin a subtly creamy texture. The name honours Big Bertha, a legendary Droimeann cow from County Kerry who lived to the remarkable age of 48. For the Navy Strength, the distillers raised the bottling strength to 114.2 proof and adjusted their botanical blend to accentuate the bolder notes, drawing on a recipe that includes juniper, a host of citrus, and warming spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, clove and cumin. Expect a powerful, aromatic nose of juniper and orange peel with a lift of spice. The palate is rich and warming, with clove and cardamom giving way to creamy vanilla and fresh citrus peel, finishing long and spicy with juniper and a hint of liquorice.
